It's never over till the fat lady sings,

and in this case the fat lady was from Colne singing a lament.

Colne's goal keeper, ex Nelson shot stopper, Chris Thompson played a blinder for 85 minutes keeping Nelson, and Richie Allen in particular, from scoring with 6 spectacular saves that most keepers would have got nowhere near.

At 2 - 3 down with minutes to go Richie finally broke down Chris's resolve with an equaliser and then followed that up with a late winner that all the Colne fans said was hand ball. I couldn't find any Nelson fans who saw the ball being fingered and crucially neither did the ref or linesmen and their opinion is all that matters.

A noble late victory brought about by playing to the death, Nelson had the belief that sooner or later they would get the rewards that the second half performance deserved, and so it was to be. A four - three victory for the lads in blue and into the hat for the next round.

Don't know who we are going to get but Lancaster City away holds no fears for Nelson.

Richie Allen could easily have been man of the match but that accolade has to go to Chris Thompson in the Colne goal.

What a good signing that would be if he could be persuaded to return!

cheers

Brilliant derby, well worth the journey up, Ritchie Allen, what a man! Just listened to Marks interview and he's bang on - on chances we were well deserving of the win. No doubt we need a couple of full backs tho. And if Chris Thompson is available or can be persuaded he would be an excellent addition

I think that the deficiencies with the defence have been flogged to death and it's time to move on.

On a positive note Danny Finch at right back had a good game. Anything in the air down that flank he won convincingly.

I have no doubt that the coaches at the club are working hard to improve the communication between the defence which should sort out a lot of the problems. They need to work, and defend, as a unit. When that happens the goals against will fall.
