Development squad Empty Re: Development squad

A superior Nelson outfit with a number of lads from the youth squad plus a couple of regular first team players outplayed a Colne team laced liberally with first teamers.

Nelson were well worthy of their one goal lead when the Colne keeper had a rush of blood and darted out of his area only to bring down a Nelson player earning himself a red card in the process.

With an outfield player in goal and a man extra Nelson should have capitalised more than they did. A second goal on the stroke of half time was just reward for an enterprising Nelson team full of running.

The second half saw a third goal before Nelson were awarded a second penalty which was well saved by the stand in keeper but the taker should have done better to work the keeper harder.
Two excellent one on one chances went begging before, after 65 minutes, the lights decided to go AWOL.

Thoughts of an unwanted abandonment were banished when brightness was restored only to see Colne return rejuvenated and Nelson look tired. Colne pulled one back when Jason Hart did what Jason Hart does and curled the ball over the defence into the top corner.

A weary looking Nelson battled hard to keep the increasingly active Colne at bay but still managed to create another couple of chances that were duly missed before the referee blew his whistle to end proceedings with Nelson three one up at half time in the tie.

Had Nelson took more of the chances they created they could have had five or six, but they didn't so they have three.

The second leg up at Holt House will be an interesting affair.

Sounded like a good game, always nice to get one over on Colne, but only half the job done

An accurate and well delivered assessment from Mr Berry.

Great game to watch and when you consider we are bemoaning our luck at 3-1 against their starting eleven consisting of no less than 7 first teamers, it shows how far we are coming on.

We had 5 players aged 17 and a 15 year old sub on the pitch.

Get in!!!!!!!!!!!!!
