My money is on our youngsters turning them over.

Well a 3 - 0 defeat against probably Colne's starting eleven on Saturday.

Other than a very shaky start gifting them two goals in first five minutes I thought the youngsters did themselves proud particularly 2nd half.

I am sure our boys will gain a lot from that game whereas Colne just used it as a run out for first team.

Some would say unfair however if I had been Colne manager I would have done the same.

Our boys will improve so much through the remainder of the season and many showed they can compete at NWCFL standard.

Signs are very good.

It makes a mockery of the competition for a club to use it as a training exercise.
Stronger rules need to be put in place to prevent such things happening.

The usual rule is you can only use 4 first team players from the weekend but with all weekend games off they can use who they like. Wonder if we would have done the same if we didn't have Holker tonight

A more sensible rule would be anyone who has made 10 or more 1st team appearances should be barred from the competition.

The problem with that Philip is that it restricts players who are 1st team say with 15 appearances but have been out injured for 4 weeks and unable to get match fitness back cos they don't qualify.

I would rather take the positives in that clubs that field full strength 1st teams are cheating their younger dev players out of vital experience.

If I was parent of dev player at Colne I would be looking for a new club like Nelson without doubt.

It also gives a sterner test to our younger ones and helps Mark produce youngsters of the required standard as he can see them 1st hand in games against the same level of opposition as they will face in our very own first team.

It was still a good game to watch albeit a bit disheartening for the lads that they will not progress in the comp but I am sure each individual would trade a place in the next round for inclusion in a 1st team game.

We will benefit much more in the long term as the name 'Nelson' will ring out to all up and coming young footballers as the place to be.
